My Protector
Written by: Glenda M Thomas
Jesus is my Protector
My Protector By: Glenda M. Thomas
When I was 13 just starting high school, people use to pick on me. People would walk by and make snide comments about me being smart or about the fact that my best friend was white. One day this girl Norma, who attended elementary school with me, came up to me out of the blue and said, “If anybody messes with you, just tell me and I’ll beat ‘em up for you.”
Norma was a godsend and fortunately big and bad enough to back up her promise. She knew I was timid and more than likely wouldn’t fight and probably couldn’t win if I did. So she stepped up to the plate to be my protector. When the other kids walked by and made ugly remarks, I did not feel so bad – I was not alone. I knew that if it got too bad, I could call on Norma.
Jesus stepped up to the cross to die in my place. Having accepted His saving grace and His power to wash away my sins, I now have a sense of security that I have in this life and in the life to come. Jesus is with me. “Lo, I am with you, even until the end of the world.” (Matthew 28:20).
When Satan is picking on me. I can call on Jesus. Jesus is big and powerful-more powerful than the Evil One. Sometimes I get fearful. I admit it. And then I hear Jesus’ words, “Look at the fowls of the air … are you not more valuable than these?” (Matthew 6:25). I must answer, “Yes, I am, in Your sight. I am more valuable than a bird. Thank you for taking a stand for me. Thank you for being my Protector. Thank you, Jesus! Thank you for letting me call on Your name, JESUS my JESUS.
